White and Wong’s Sydney – East West Fusion Cuisine Review

white and wong's sydney restaurant review

White + Wong’s is a newly opened Sydney restaurant that offers “east meets west” cuisine, blending classic street foods from China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Thailand into a menu that is uniquely theirs.

The open kitchen setup and the roast meats displayed at the front of the store immediately took me back to my culinary experiences while traveling in Hong Kong.

To illustrate just how creative their dishes are listen to what we had for the entrees. We started with some kingfish sashimi served in a concoction of tomatoes, chili, lime, and coconut cream. You wouldn’t think that the combination of Japanese and Thai flavors would work but they sure did!. Some other highlights of the entrees include the fried pork hock with chili caramel and their crispy ginger and wagyu beef siaomai.

I would however absolutely recommend their Chinese roast duck served with hoisin and mandarin sauces. I know it’s pretty hard to disappoint with roast duck but this was superb. For the mains, we tried out the beef red curry and wok-fried broccolini.

I highly recommend you save room for desserts when visiting White and Wong’s as they are amazing. We had the deep-fried ice cream, some homemade sorbet, and the banoffee sundae which were all delicious. The absolute star of the dessert lineup however would be this yuzu curd, mascarpone chantilly, served with coconut sorbet, swiss meringue, and freeze-dried berries. If you only get to try one dessert here let this be it.

Final Verdict

The service at White + Wong’s was also fantastic. Our waiter was attentive without being overbearing and was able to give us great recommendations on what to order.

Overall, I had an amazing experience at White + Wong’s and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique culinary experience.
