I live on the other side of town, so I was esthetic when I found out I was going to Strathfield for the day. Strathfield and Burwood have long evolved from simple Inner West suburbs to food havens for those in the know. I ran a poll on Instagram, and the Mandoo won by one vote.
The Mandoo is a small corner restaurant located along the Boulevarde, literally minutes away from Strathfield station. We managed to squeeze in just before the peak lunch hour started. The menu was brief and to the point; Mandoo only sells 2 things: dumplings and cold-cut noodles.
Dumplings

There were fifteen different variations of dumplings and buns, and honestly, it all looked so good we couldn’t choose!. Luckily for us, there was a dumpling sampler platter where you got one of each. The size of the dumplings was huge!. The dumplings were perfectly steamed and filled with fresh ingredients.
Spicy Cold-Cut Noodles

The star of the show, so to speak, however, was the cold-cut noodles. The noodles were soaked in a cold stock and topped off with kimchi, cucumber pickles, chili paste, and hard-boiled egg. I was also given scissors to cut the noodles apart while mixing the noodles with the toppings. This was a rather enjoyable experience, The noodles had a firm, chewy texture, and the flavors of the toppings were not too spicy nor too salty. Check out the noodle cutting experience below.
By the way, the scissors also come in handy when eating the dumplings. I highly recommend using the scissors to cut apart the dumplings to make the eating experience more effortless (and more dignified)
Overall I enjoyed my experience at the Mandoo. I will definitely be returning when the climate gets a bit warmer again, as the cold-cut noodles were quite refreshing on a hot summer afternoon.
