Dumpling and Noodle House Potts Point – PhatLife Project

The aptly named Dumpling and Noodle House is a small hole in the wall restaurant situated along Victoria Street in Potts Point. The restaurant has a strong following within the Eastern suburbs community. It is always full from the moment it opens its doors at 6pm. 

I had to investigate to see what the fuss was all about. The restaurant’s inner layout is very cozy, with the kitchen located downstairs accessed via a very narrow set of stairs. However, they have expanded their outdoor seatings due to CoVid. I actually quite enjoy the setup that allows you to observe the hustle and bustle of the area. 

Looking around the tables, I immediately spotted familiar Chinese food staples such as pan-fried dumplings, trays of Xiao Long Bao, fried noodles, and spring rolls. From there on, I knew what I wanted to order. The menu, much like the name restaurant, is straight to the point serving up dumplings containing an array of fillings such as chicken, beef, seafood, and vegetarian. Since we had dumplings, it was natural that we would gravitate to the noodle selection. We ordered 2 types of dumplings, pan-fried and steamed, a tray of pork Xia Long Baos and a fried noodle dish. 

The food arrived reasonably quickly, once I took the first bite, I immediately understood the place’s attraction. The dumplings tasted fresh and had a nice chewy bite to them, which is just how I like it. The highlight for me would be the pan-fried dumplings, be sure to order this when you visit. I guarantee that the plate will be licked clean. 

The Dumpling and Noodle House in Potts Point is a straight-up, no-frills, no-fuss restaurant serving up some of the most authentic Chinese staples I have tried on this side of town. They are open Monday to Saturday from 6pm – 10pm. They are very popular, so get there early and be prepared to wait to be seated.
